​​IRS General Information

  • ITIN’s over 5 years old are expiring and must be renewed prior to filing a US Tax Return
  • Expiring ITIN’s with middle digits 78 and 79 were mailed letters by the IRS in August stating their renewal requirements
  • ITIN’s unused since 2012 will not be valid but can be renewed
  • ITIN’s issued but unused for 3 consecutive years will not be valid but can be renewed
  • Renewals must mail original documents to IRS, they will return within 6 days
  • Family option for ITIN renewal
  • Renewal period begins October 1, 2016

  • W-2, W-3, 1099-Misc by January 31st (from March 31st)
  • 1120S & 1065 – 15th day of 3rd month
  • 1120 – 15th day of 4th month here.

Return Filling Due Date Changes

  • Info @ Healthcare.gov;  irs.gov/ACA;  irs.gov/TaxPros
  • Must check one of these:  IRS will not accept silent returns starting in 2016
  • A - MEC (Minimum Essential Coverage):  Employer provided, COBRA or retirement health coverage OR Marketplace Coverage OR Medicare A/C, CHIP, Veterans or Tricare
  • B - Exempt from coverage (Form 8965)
  • C - ISRP Payment with Tax Return (greater of 2 ½% HH Inc or $695 per person, 345.50 if <18 Capped at $223/mth/person or $1,115/mth/family of 5
  • 11/1/16 – 1/31/17 open season to enroll in Marketplace
